St. Paul’s Church in Ambala

Located in Ambala Cantt, St. Paul’s Church is one of the most important and oldest churches in the region. It was built in the year 1855 by the British engineers. Initially, it was commonly known as England’s Girjaghar. In the year 1857, the church was sanctified and renamed as ‘St. Paul’s Church.’
This magnificent church has suffered extensive damage to its premises during the Indo – Pakistan war in the year 1965. But still, in the present time, the proud remnants of the structure sets as a live exemplar to the beautiful church that was once situated on the place. Initially, the Church was spread over a vast area of 21 acres. But now, a large area has been taken over by the Air Force for the establishment of a school and various other purposes.

Holy Redeemer Church in Ambala

Holy Redeemer Church is another one of the most important and oldest churches in the city of Ambala. It was constructed by the British people at the time when the droves of East India Company were relocated to Ambala from Karnal. Built in the year 1848, the Holy Redeemer Church also has two rooms which were initially set up for the troops and at present are used as a reading room and a dispensary. The only Catholic Viceroy of the country, Lord Viceroy, had also made a visit to the church. In the year 1902, the church warped down and a new one was constructed in its place.
The Church is a live testimony to the Gothic architectural style. It comprises of a large tower held by well built pillars. The high roof of the church offers a very picturesque milieu the greenery around. It is very hard to believe that such well maintained church was built around 100 years ago.
